Krishna Das Kirtan

I recently went to a Kirtan with my daughters. We went to see Krishna Das perform in Bridgehampton, NY. What an experience. We arrived early and were able to watch him practice. Without us knowing, people were lining up outside to come in and we were inside the whole time! Rachel, my 11 year old and I, went up to meet KD between his practice session and sound check. Wow! He was so gracious and, frankly, awesome! Rachel gave him a bracelet she made and he wore it for the whole show. We met up with him again later when he signed my book and met Rebecca, my 6 year old. I have to say, I don't get "star struck" too often. I admit I was giddy when I met Shiva Rea and had a loss of words when I met Dharma Mitra, but Krishna Das... well, that was just toooo cool. When I hear his voice, I can't help but think that if I could hear God's voice he would sound like Krishna Das. If you have the opportunity to go to a Kirtan by all means seize it and go. They are such wonderful experiences. The artist chants and the audience chants back - a call and response singing dialogue. If you have a chance to go see Krishna Das - call me and I'll go with you!

Closing Prayer from Krishna Das

"If we know anything about a path at all, it's only because of the Great ones that have gone before us. Out of their love and kindness, they have left some footprints for us to follow. So, in the same way that they wish for us, we wish that all beings everywhere, including ourselves, be safe, be happy, have good health, and enough to eat. And may we all live at ease of heart with whatever comes to us in life."

Celebrate Yourself

Wow, I can't believe the kids are heading back to school and the busy schedules are starting all over again! Let the hectic days begin!
Remember that it is always important to take time for yourself - whether it is Yoga, reading, running or anything else that makes you feel connected to your inner self. Let the dishes stay in the sink - let the carpets be in need of vacuuming and take some time for you. Follow your passion, start something new, reach for a goal, remember who YOU are. Embrace that self, laugh, dance and feel lighthearted. Your life is a blessing that needs to be celebrated. Namaste!

Bhagavad- Gita

“It is better to live your own destiny imperfectly than to live an imitation of somebody else’s life with perfection.” ~ Bhagavad-Gita

Dalai Lama...

We can't be useful to ourselves unless we're useful to others. Whether we like it or not, we're all connected, and it is unthinkable to be happy all by oneself. Anyone concerned only by his own well-being will suffer eventually. Anyone concerned with the well-being of others takes care of himself without even thinking about it. Even if we decide to remain selfish, let us be intelligently selfish - let us help others. - Dalai Lama
